Introduced in 1988, the Eric Clapton Stratocaster was Fender’s very first official artist signature guitar. The earliest versions (1988–2000) utilized Gold Lace Sensor pickups. In 2001, Fender upgraded the standard line to Vintage Noiseless pickups, matching a preference change made by Clapton himself on his live performance guitars. The “Pewter" finish has been a staple color option for the Clapton signature model since its first production run.
