The modern Gibson J-45 is a round-shouldered, non-cutaway dreadnought acoustic, built with a solid Sitka spruce soundboard and solid mahogany back and sides. Early J-45s had the familiar rounded shoulders and short scale, while late-1960s production moved towards a square-shouldered body and, for a period, a longer scale, but Gibson returned the model to its more traditional round-shouldered form during the 1980s. The model is a workhorse and delivers extremely versatile tone, fit for a variety of genres and situations.
