The L-00 is one of Gibson's most enduring small-body designs, originally developed in the early 1930s during the Great Depression. It was designed as an affordable alternative to larger dreadnoughts, eventually becoming a staple for blues, folk, and fingerstyle players due to its "throaty" mid-range and balanced projection. While it was discontinued in 1945, its popularity with legendary artists like Robert Johnson led to its eventual reissue. The modern Standard series (revived around 2012) combines the vintage small-body silhouette with modern upgrades like a SlimTaper neck and factory-installed electronics. The model was marketed under the name "Blues King" due to its historical association with itinerant Delta blues players.
