It was specifically designed to compete with iconic mahogany dreadnoughts like the Martin D-18, aiming to give acoustic musicians a powerful, stage-ready tool.Ā Folk iconĀ Richie HavensĀ famously played aĀ Guild D40Ā on stage during his historic opening performance of "Freedom" at theĀ 1969 Woodstock Festival. Other legendary artists of the era, such as Paul Simon and John Denver, heavily relied on Guild guitars for their balance and projection.
