Martinā€™s Vintage Series were a range of instruments designed around traditional construction, styling and appointments associated with earlier Martin guitars. The design of this D-18 deliberately recalls Martinā€™s earliest branded Dreadnoughts. The first D-18s of the early 1930s had 12-fret neck joints and slotted headstocks; Martin moved the mainstream D-18 to the now-familiar 14-fret, square-shouldered format in 1934. This rare model from 1997 has excellent playability and sound, and carries a lot of mojo! It had a bridge detachment repair, a back bracing detachment repair, and the cow bone saddle is not original. The ā€˜Mā€™ in the model name denotes mahogany, while the ā€˜Sā€™ identifies the traditional slope-shoulder 12-fret body configuration.
